In the Heat - Arturo Soto

Panama’s aanwezigheid in het collectieve geheugen blijft vaak beperkt tot het beroemde kanaal, de exotische landschappen en de recente politieke geschiedenis. In In the Heat presenteert Arturo Soto echter een subjectieve verbeelding van Panama’s stedelijke landschap die het conservatieve beeld van economische vooruitgang tegen spreekt. Hoewel het project niet bedoeld is als sociale kritiek, probeert het wel de uiteenlopende sociale waarden en ongelijkheid in Panama’s stedelijke omgeving vast te leggen. -- Panama’s presence in the collective unconscious is frequently limited to its famous canal, exotic sceneries and recent political history. In In the Heat, however, Arturo Soto presents a subjective depiction of Panama’s urban landscape which contradicts conservative notions of progress and economic growth. Even though the project is not meant as a social critique, it does attempt to capture the varying social values and disparities located in the urban environment of Panama.
