((Please scroll down for English version)) Das Châlet - im Sinne der luxuriös-romantischen abgelegenen Berghütte, in der »splendid isolation« einer sonnenverwöhnten Winterlandschaft ist eines der beliebteren Klischeebilder der Schweiz. Die eigentliche Bedeutung des Begriffes »Châlet« (von lat. cala, geschützter Ort) ist aber einfach nur Sennhütte oder Unterstand. Auf vielen Reisen durch seine Wahlheimat ist Patrick Lambertz immer wieder Häusern begegnet, die sich dem typischen Klischee des Schweizer Châlets entziehen. Es sind in die Jahre gekommene Häuser, die von der in der Schweiz seit Jahrzehnten grassierenden Bau- und Renovierungswut gerade noch verschont geblieben sind. Indem er sie vor winterlichem Hintergrund fotografiert, abstrahiert er die Häuser, hebt ihren individuellen Charakter hervor und gibt Ihnen eine poetisch-ironische Aura. Er hebt sie im besten Blossfeldt/Becher-schen Sinne auf den fototypologischen Altar vergessener aber erinnerungswürdiger Schweizer Häuser. Dabei benützt er die Natur selbst als Fotostudio: Das weiche kontrastarme Licht liefern bedeckte Himmel und starke Nebel, den neutralen Hintergrund bilden schneebedeckte Schweizer Berge und Hügel. SYB, Fotobuchgestalterlegende aus Den Haag und Meister des niederländischen Altarfalzes, hat für die Bilder aus dem Schweizer Bergland von Patrick Lambertz ein kongeniales Buchkonzept entwickelt, das die Häuser im beständigen Wechsel aus einem winterlichen Papierweiss schemenhaft auftauchen und wieder verschwinden lässt.



The châlet, a luxurious and romantic remote mountain hut that exists in "splendid isolation" in a sunny winter landscape - this is one of the most popular cliché images of Switzerland. However, the actual meaning of the term "châlet", derived from the Latin word cala: "protected place", is simply that of an Alpine dairy hut oder shelter. On his many trips through his adopted home, Patrick Lambertz has run into many houses that do not conform to the cliché of the Swiss châlet. They are old houses that barely managed to escape the building and renovation boom that has plagued the country for decades. By photographing them in front of a wintery backdrop he abstracts these houses from their context, heightens their individual character, and provides them with an aura of poetry and irony. Following the tradition of Karl Blossfeldt and Bernd and Hilla Becher, Lambertz creates a typological canon of forgotten, yet memorable Swiss houses. Nature itself provides the photo studio: cloudy skies and dense fog provide soft light with little contrast.
