Six years of research with the purpose of having the untold account of Suriname’s LGBT history at long last comprehensively divulged and documented, has resulted in this publication: Love – A History of Hate in Suriname - Hide, Flee or Suicide Execution Extinction Existence Expression - An Insight into a Country’s Gay History. Until now, due to taboo, legal and social repercussions from a repressive ‘heteronormative’ biased society, this has been a forgotten, concealed disguised or deliberately ignored aspect of Suriname’s history. It is now recorded formally and in the apt context for and by those who have lived decent lives but have experienced continued injustice. The results answer many questions but also pose new ones. The exposure of centuries of myths, misconceptions, misinformation, deceit and oppression motivated by the perpetrators’ quest and hunger for power and wealth should hopefully now, with a better understanding of the horrific past, open doors and help establish a future based on liberty and justice. A future offering equality for everyone, including those who are still entrapped by social and sometimes idolatrous doctrine.
